The State Of Marriage

This comes from Dr. Al Mohler's Blog and is very interesting reading.

The U.S. Census Bureau has just reported that cohabitation among heterosexual couples has hit record numbers as living together -- as opposed to getting married -- becomes more and more mainstream.

USA Today provides extensive reporting on this issue, along with analysis that seems to celebrate this development.

In one article, "Census Reports More Unmarried Couples Living Together," the paper provides a summary of the findings. As the paper reports:

The number of opposite-sex couples who live together, less than a million 30 years ago, hit 6.4 million in 2007, show federal data released Monday. Cohabiting couples now make up almost 10% of all opposite-sex U.S. couples, married and unmarried.

That's up from 2006, when the Census bureau reported 5 million unmarried, opposite-sex households. But that figure was based on a question that some respondents might have found unclear.

The important shift is not found between 2006 and 2007, but between 1977 and 2007. Just thirty years ago cohabitation was rare and marriage was the norm for heterosexual couples. All that has seemingly changed.

Nevertheless, the other side of the story was downplayed. If cohabitating couples make up "almost 10%" of heterosexual couples, then marriage is still very much the norm. In fact, the American numbers on marriage are much different than those found in many European nations, where the percentages of unmarried couples living together is much higher. The resilience of marriage is a big part of this story, but that fact doesn't provide much headline fodder.

The paper also suggested that the true figures concerning cohabitation are obscured by the fact that many couples who are currently married had previously cohabitated. One researcher cited by the paper suggested that the American pattern of cohabitation is more of a life stage than a permanent lifestyle.

Sociologist Linda Waite of the University of Chicago "says living together in the USA isn't very stable or long-term, compared to some Scandinavian countries where it's more likely to be a long-term committed relationship." She said that in America cohabitation is "part of the life course." As she explained: "It's something people do that leads to somewhere," she says. "If it doesn't lead to marriage, it leads to splitsville."

USA Today also provided an analysis article, "Living Together No Longer 'Playing House.'" In this article, Sharon Jayson argues that cohabitation has been falsely blamed for later marital problems and breakups. As she introduced her article:

A generation ago, unmarried couples who lived together were often derided for "shacking up" or "playing house." Studies in the 1980s supported those negative stereotypes, suggesting that cohabitation could doom a long-term relationship, substantially raising the risk of divorce.

While researchers say the overall divorce rate is higher among those who lived together before marriage, now they don't blame cohabitating.

As Pamela Smock, a sociologist at the Population Studies Center at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, suggested, "There's been a sea change in societal, cultural and individual acceptance of cohabitation."

More from her article:

"The nature of cohabitation has changed," says Jay Teachman, a sociology professor at Western Washington University in Bellingham. "Cohabitators 20 years ago were the rule breakers, the rebels, the risk takers -- the folks who were perhaps not as interested in marriage, and using cohabitation as an alternative to marriage."

"Twenty or 25 years ago, if you were cohabiting and then married them, the marriage was more likely to dissolve and end in divorce," he says. "Today, that's not the case. You can cohabit with your spouse and not experience increased risk of divorce. We're making these finer distinctions that we didn't make before."

In an interesting twist, one researcher argued that cohabitating couples should be seen as "a family form in its own right," as completely distinct from marriage. USA Today rounded out its reporting with a poll. As the paper reported its findings:

Most people today reject the notion that couples who live together before marriage are more likely to get divorced, finds a weekend USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of 1,007 adults.

Almost half (49%) said living together makes divorce less likely; 13% said it makes no difference. Just 31% said living together first makes divorce more likely; 7% had no opinion.

The fascinating aspect of this poll is the very fact that the paper thought that a poll would be valuable. The poll actually reveals nothing about the actual impact of cohabitation on marriage, but only on what people think about the impact of cohabitation.

Once all this is put together, a portrait of a changing America comes into view. The most significant data reveals the incredible cultural shift on cohabitation since the late 1970s. The larger picture concerning marriage would have to include the impact of so-called "no-fault" divorce laws that became widespread during the same period.

Even as marriage is still the norm, increasing numbers of heterosexual couples are cohabitating before, if not instead of, marrying. The Census Bureau reports statistics, but the more urgent dimension of this development is moral. The subversion of marriage comes at great cost, even if couples do not experience what they describe as trauma or trouble. The reality of sexual intimacy outside of marriage always comes with a moral and spiritual cost, but this is rejected by a culture in denial.

For many, cohabitation is now just "part of the life course."

Power of Encouragement

Yesterday, after I wrote a slightly depressing post. I had a friend of mine in the church just call to see how I was doing let me know that he was there for me and was praying for me. This meant the world to me. Then another friend of mine dropped the church office just to talk and pray as well. Amazing how quickly God can work through prayer. But, that made me think. If these two guys taking a little time out of their life to bless made such an impact on me, what would be it be like if we all took a little time out of day to pray for an encourage one another. That sounds like a great idea. But, it is not original with me Heb 3:13 says But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception.

Notice the writer of Hebrews view a lack of daily encouragement contributing to to us being hardened and tricked by sins deception. How are we tricked by the deception of sin? It tricks us into that no one cares, that we take the easy path, that God can't handle our problems, that life will never get better. It says that these thoughts and sins will harden us. That we may be Christians but we will be hard Christians robbed of joy and hope in Christ. I know people who claim to be Christians who live like this. I wonder if they had people, to love, support, and encourage them, in their life what a difference this would have made. Let's find it is never to late to show and feel the power of encouragement.

May today we practice again what the writer of Hebrews asks of us Heb 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; (24) and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, (25) not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Feeling Encouraged and Refreshed,

Discouraged Pastors

I have been feeling a little discouraged as of late. It happens to all of us from time and preachers are not excused from it. It seems sometimes that Satan is just on your back and pushing you down. I wondered if I was the only preacher who ever felt this way. I came across this today and I was comforted that I am not the only one, but also frightened to see the damage pastoral ministry can have ones life and family

Darrin Patrick, pastor of The Journey in St. Louis, in a recent podcast reported on a recent study by Focus on the Family. He reports the following:

  • 1,500 pastors leave the ministry each month due to moral failure, contention in churches, or spiritual burnout.
  • 50 percent of pastors will be divorced by the time they leave the ministry.
  • 80 percent of pastors and 84 percent of spouses feel discouraged or unqualified in their roles as pastors.
  • 50 percent are so discouraged they would leave if they could but have no other way to make a living.
  • one out of five seminary and Bible school grads who enter the ministry will leave it in the first five years after graduation.
  • 80 percent of spouses feel their spouse is over-worked. 80 percent wish their husbands would leave the ministry.
  • 80 percent of pastor’s wives say the most destructive event that ever occurred in their marriage and family was the day they entered ministry.
  • 70 percent of pastors fight depression.
  • 40 percent have had an extramarital affair since starting ministry.
  • 70 percent of pastors say that the only time studying the Word is when they are preparing a sermon.
I ask for your prayers for my family and myself. It as the Apostle Paul said in Eph 6:19 Pray for me also, that I may be given the message when I begin to speak — that I may confidently make known the mystery of the gospel. The fear of failure is strong and the punishment severe. James says in 3:1 Not many should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive a stricter judgment.

Thank you to all who pray from me and my family and all the encouragement that you give. I will close with the words of the Psalmist 42:5 "Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God-- soon I'll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He's my God."

Trusting In God, Pastor Phillip

Make Sure Your Loved Ones Are Rapture Ready

The most popular books in our library here at Antioch Baptist Church are the "Left Behind" series. I have never read them, I hear from people all the time how good they are. I disagree with much of the theology behind the fiction, but the focal point of the books is the rapture. Through out the history of the church there have been predictions for hundreds of “imminent raptures” and have thus far failed to materialize (I hope or we have been left behind). The question has always been what happens when the rapture takes Christians from the world before the Great Tribulation, what happens to those who are left behind.

Well, if you are worried about you lost loved ones then this service may be for you. To that end, welcome to the world wide web youvebeenleftbehind.com. This handy-dandy website allows subscribers the opportunity to remind special friends and family members who missed the Rapture that they still have hope, and a chance, to gain the Kingdom of Heaven.

From their website:

“You’ve Been Left Behind gives you one last opportunity to reach your lost family and friends For Christ. Imagine being in the presence of the Lord and hearing all of heaven rejoice over the salvation of your loved ones. It is our prayer that this site makes it happen.”

That’s right friends…for a mere $40 per year subscription fee, youvebeenleftbehind.com will let you store up to 250Mb of documents that can be automatically e-mailed to up to 62 different lost people when the Rapture happens.

But wait, you might be asking, how does this service work? I mean, the Rapture takes all the Christians away, and these folks who run this site are obviously good Christians. How does the system send out all these e-mails to the lost if they’ve (the site hosts) been taken back to Jesus?

Just as Noah got instructions from God on how to build a really big boat, the fine folks at youvebeenleftbehind.com have an ingenious trigger that can only be divinely inspired.

“We have set up a system to send documents by the email, to the addresses you provide, 6 days after the “Rapture” of the Church. This occurs when 3 of our 5 team members scattered around the U.S fail to log in over a 3 day period. Another 3 days are given to fail safe any false triggering of the system.”

Got it? If three of the five team members fail to log in to the system for three days in a row, the trigger is set. Another three days pass, and it’s sure the Rapture took place.

The site is the brainchild of Mark Heard, who came up with the idea while buying stocks online one day. He worried about how his wife would gain access to his account and password if he were to be Raptured at that moment.

“In the encrypted portion of your account you can give them access to your banking, brokerage, hidden valuables and powers of attorneys. There won’t be any bodies, so probate court will take seven years to clear your assets to your next of kin. Seven years, of course, is all the time that will be left (during the Tribulation) so, basically the Government of the Antichrist gets your stuff, unless you make it available in another way.”

I wonder if Mr. Heard’s wife is openly non-Christian or he just has serious doubts. But you know what they say….behind every great man….whatever.

So should you go out and join today in hopes of offering your lost loved ones the chance of salvation after the rapture? Up to you, but I think John was right when he said of Jesus "John 12:37 Even though He had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in Him."

So, tell your friends about Jesus now and don't depend on some website to do it for after your gone. Remember the writer of Hebrews warns "Heb 9:27 And just as it is appointed for people to die once--and after this, judgment." Make sure you and your loved ones are ready?

Go Ahead And Sue God!!!

If you read your Bible it will step on your toes. It will make you uncomfortable, convicted, even mad at all that God expects and demands of us. But, the good part is that we are not left to ourselves in our strength to carry out all that God asks of us. I always try and remember Philippians 2:13 For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to will and to act for His good purpose. God gives us the grace and the strength needed to carry out what He asks us to do. Always remember that when you are feeling tempted to become discouraged. But, if you are still mad, you can try what this guy did below and sue God. That right! Sue God!

Man sues Bible publisher over verse
DETROIT, MI (NBC) - The Bible and a reference to homosexuals is the focus of a $60 million lawsuit against a west Michigan Christian publisher.

This hand-written lawsuit was filed Monday in federal court in Detroit.

There are a lot of unanswered questions at this point about whether this $60 million suit has a chance of going anywhere.

The suit alleges Grand Rapids-based Zondervan deliberately caused homosexuals to suffer by, what the suit claims, is a misinterpretation of the Bible.

The suit centers on one passage in scripture: first Corinthians, chapter six, verse nine and how it reads in Bibles published by Zondervan.

Bradley Fowler filed the suit. He says Zondervan Bibles published in 1982 and 1987 used the word homosexuals among a list of those who are 'wicked' or 'unrighteous' and won't inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Fowler says his family's pastor used that Zondervan Bible and because of it, his family considered him a sinner.

Now he's suing for $60 million. Bradley Fowler says "to compensate for the past 20 years of emotional duress and mental instability."

Fowler claims the company is misinterpreting the Bible by specifically using the word homosexuals. He admits that every Bible printed is a translation, interpreted in some way, but he says specifically using that word is not a translation but a change.

Fowler says "these are opinions based on the publishers and they are being embedded in the religious structure as a way of life."

The man filing the suit says he came across the discrepancy while researching a book noting, he says, Zondervan Bibles published in the 80s used the word homosexuals but earlier and later ones didn't.

We went to the library to do some research of our own, finding Zondervan Bibles published both in the 80s and post-2000 use the word homosexuals.

And some other Bibles like the New American Standard also use the word.

Others don't. The regular American Standard version uses the phrase 'abusers of themselves with men.' the King James says 'abusers of themselves with mankind.' Still others use the word 'sodomites.'

This just proves the truth of Heb 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as to divide soul, spirit, joints, and marrow; it is a judge of the ideas and thoughts of the heart. (13) No creature is hidden from Him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account.

May we let God's word reveal our sin and even more importantly as David said in Psa 16:11 You reveal the path of life to me; in Your presence is abundant joy; in Your right hand are eternal pleasures."

Funeral For A Man Of God

Our church lost amazing man, last Thursday evening, Mr. Curtis Johnson. He was married to his wonderful wife for 64 years and served our church faithfully till the day we went to be with Jesus. Below is the sermon I preached at his funeral. It is roughly edited, but I think we can be challenged by Paul in 2 Timothy and by the life of Curtis Johnson. Please continue to be in prayer for his family.

Ecc 12:13 When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear God and keep His commands, because this is for all humanity.
Mr. Curtis strove for this. You know it is nice to do funerals where you don’t have to lie and try and preach someone into heaven. But, Ms. Cat asked me not to praise Curtis. She said she wanted God’s presence here and focus on God and not Mr. Curtis. Truth is I don’t have to praise Mr. Curtis. All of you are here because you know and love this man. The man lived his funeral. He just did things, he did not draw much attention to it, and he just did it. The world is full of people who point out problems and even church people say all the things that need to be done, all the while expecting someone else to do them. Mr. Curtis just did it. He and Mrs. Cat were always the first at church to turn on lights and have everything ready for the service to begin. Mr. Curtis always dressed nice. Mrs. Cat would always tell me his suit came from 1947 and 2.00 dollars. He also had a sharp red coat, that I always wanted to wear, to bad he and I were just not the same size. Just last month when I went to visit the tires on truck were slack and he went out to put some air in them for me.

I could on and on with all the little things. But one other preacher also wanted to have a chance to share as well. I will let other past preachers praise him. a. Gordon Thronton, 1982 first church. Charles Jones, David Jone’s dad was struggling with cancer and Curtis would go and shave him every morning. Gordon remembered when after Mr. Charles passed, Jewel Jones proclaimed his as good as gold. Gordon said in his words, Curtis was one of the best deacons he has ever known and he agrees that he was as good as gold!

I thought about other great men who died and the way they wanted to be remembered. a. The apostle Paul was a fellow as well who got things done. He did far more action than he did talking about it. Towards the end of Paul’s life he wrote a letter to a young preacher named Timothy.

2 Tim 4:5-8 But as for you, keep a clear head about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (6) For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time for my departure is close. (7) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (8) In the future, there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing.

Vs.6a The apostle uses two vivid figures of speech to portray his coming death. He likens his life to a drink offering. Final act of sacrifice, in the fact that he had given everything that could have to the service of God and man. Offered all he had to God

Vs.6b Departure: It has few powerful meaning for us to consider It is the word for unyoking an animal from the the plough. Death to Paul was rest from toil. Mr. Curtis now has found his rest. It is the word for loosening chains or shackles Death for Paul was a release. He was to exchange the confines of a Roman prison for the glorious liberty of the courts of heaven. Mr. Curtis is free from the pain that he felt and endured in this life
It is the word for loosening the ropes of a tent. For Paul it was time to strike camp again. Many a journey he had made across the roads of Asia Minor and of Europe. Now he was setting out on his last and greatest journey; he was taking the road that led to God. Mr. Curtis now is a new and better place. A place of worship, vibrant life and activity.I don’t now if things break in heaven, but if they do we know Curtis will have it fixed quickly! It is the word for loosening the ropes of a ship. Many a time Paul had felt his ship leave the harbor for the deep waters. Now he is to launch out into the greatest deep of all, setting sail to cross the waters of death to arrive in the heaven of eternity Mr. Curtis is home now on those heavenly shores. The journey is complete

Vs.7a I have fought the good fight’. This athletic imagery. My coach used to always say “leave it all on the field.” Mr. Curtis certainly used ounce of himself in love and service to God To the very end he worked and served.

Vs.7b Next, he writes, ‘I have finished the race’. The life a Christian is started by many, but it sad to see how many people don’t finish. He finished strong, and now serves as encouragement to those of us in this room to imitate him in faithfulness to endure and preserver no matter what!

Vs.7c ‘I have kept the faith’. “I have kept my faith: I have never lost my confidence and my hope.” Paul meant that through thick and thin, in freedom and in imprisonment, in all his perils by land and sea, and now in the very face of death, he had never lost his trust in Jesus Christ. I never saw Curtis lose faith. I see his family now keeping the faith. That is what he would want from us. i. Not to despair, no to worry, not to fear, but to keep the faith!

Vs.8a Paul goes on to say there is laid up for him the crown. In the games the greatest prize was the laurel (evergreen) wreath. With it the victor was crowned; and to wear it was the greatest honor which could come to any athlete. But this crown in a few short days would wither. Paul knew that there awaited him a crown which would never fade. Notice who give the reward: The Lord and Righteousness Judge, Jesus. Imagine Jesus rewarding Curtis for all he has done! Mr. Curtis reward from God is never ending. Never fading, he never drew attention to what he did, he knew God noticed, God did and now he is being rewarded for it.

Vs.8b In this moment Paul is turning from the verdict of men to the verdict of God. He knew that in a very short time he would stand before the Roman judgment seat and that his trial could have only one end. He knew what Nero’s verdict would be, but he also knew what God’s verdict would be. The man whose life is dedicated to Christ is indifferent to the verdict of men. He cares not if they condemn him so long as he hears his Master’s “Well done!”Paul sounds still another note—this crown awaits not only him but all who wait with expectation for the coming of the King. It is as if he said to the young Timothy: “Timothy, my end is near: and I know that I go to my reward. If you follow in my steps, you will feel the same confidence and the same joy when the end comes to you.” The joy of Paul is open to every man who also fights that fight and finishes the race and keeps the faith.

Go back to verse

Vs.5 Paul says this: ‘But as for you, Timothy, you must fulfill your ministry, for I am already on the point of death.’ It is all the more vital for Timothy to continue and complete his ministry because the apostle’s life-work has reached completion and is about to close.

Mr. Curtis ministry to our church is done. These are big shoes left to fill. The question for you and I today is will we fulfill our ministry? Will we give all we have to serve God and give it our all? Will we run the race through the hard times, while clinging and never letting go of that faith? Will we receive that crown that Curtis is wearing now when we finally face our creator and God? Will we continue to honor Curtis by serving the God and the church that he loved?

BTW: I used The Message of Second Timothy by John Stott from The Bible Speaks Today commentary series in preparation. I love this series and recommend it.

Approval Of The Father

I just started Mark’s Gospel. Strong church tradition makes the Apostle Peter the main source of Mark's gospel. Some think of Mark as "The Gospel According to Peter." One indication of Peter's influence is that Peter speaks very affectionately of Mark: “Mark my son” (1 Peter 5:13), and he says that Mark was with him. Mark (who is also called John-Mark in passages like Acts 12:25) was a "failure" in ministry as pictured in the book of Acts with Paul (Acts 15:36-41). His relationship with Paul was restored in the end (2 Timothy 4:11). Like Mark, Peter knew what it was like to be a "failure" in following Jesus when he denied Him three times, but he was also restored in the end. So Mark is recording Peter’s accounts of Jesus. Just think two failures working together something great. Truthfully the church is a bunch of people who have failed and sought the grace and strength to work together to do something great.

Mark is noted for it brevity, over 40 times in the book Mark says “and immediately.” I always read Mark like talking someone is so excited, and they are dying to tell me something, that is incredibly important, so I had better listen. Mark begins with John the Baptist proclaiming the way of the Messiah, then Jesus baptism it is as if, he wakes up, throws water on your face and says let’s go! One of the things I read that stood out yesterday was verse Mark 1:11 And a voice came from heaven: You are My beloved Son; I take delight in You! This was the God the Father speaking to His only son. This was the beginning of Jesus ministry at his baptism. The Father, says “Son, I love you and I am thrilled with who you are!”

So many people are dying to hear this from their parents. Many peoples problem of longing for acceptance of others comes from the fact that they never feel they won their parents approval or acceptance of who they are. They then in turn project their image of their earthly father, who might have been distant, harsh, and never satisfied on to God the Father. They then view God as someone who is never pleased, never happy with them, always wanting more from, them and they silently and even unknowingly begin to dislike and maybe even hate God. Remember A.W. Tozer said “What comes to mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you.”

What about God, does he accept you, do you have his approval, and have you won His acceptance? It depends, what have you done with Jesus? Have you accepted and trusted Jesus or have rejected him and still trying to do life on your own? You see Paul speaks of frequently being “In Christ.” 79 times in his letters he extols the benefits of being “In Christ.” For what is true of and for Jesus, becomes what is true of and for us as well. So, if you have trusted and accepted Jesus as you Lord and Savior, then today you can walk in the reality that God says to you today, right now, “You are My beloved Son; I take delight in You!” We are God’s children through the blood of Jesus. God loves you, and God is pleased with you! Nothing can ever change that reality! Just as Peter and Mark, God loved them through their whole entire failures and forgave them, and restored them serving again! Now, any good father wants what is best for us, so we are accepted in Christ, but God will discipline and direct our lives so that we begin to like Jesus reflect the exact image of our heavenly Father as well. He wants us to be a chip off the block, so that when people encounter us, the see a lot of heavenly Father shining through us.

Hot Sauce

I know, this is the second food related post. But hey, I like to eat, and the Bible does say in Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good. How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!

Hot Sauce, I like it and friend of mine offered me a few bottles for free on the condition that I try it out and write a review. Here is my review and a link to the sauce. It really was great and would make great gifts to give to guys or people who like food so check it out www.offroadfire.com.

First off, I am a not a hot sauce aficionado. I like hot sauce, and use it often, but usually of the Texas Pete and Tabasco varieties. So, my palate may be as refined as some. But, I got a hold of a bottle of Off Road Fire for two reasons. One it was free, and two it had something to do with mountain biking. I like both so I figured I would love to give it a try.

First impressions, very nice packing, very visually appealing, my wife even commented on the bottle. Then a very pleasant and inviting spicy and sweet smell came from the bottle. It made me excited to try, not afraid for my taste buds. I would comment on the color, but honestly I am color blind, my wife has to make sure I match every day!

Then I deiced to try it straight. No cracker, no nothing, just the sauce. It was very nice. The spice level on the bottle was labeled as medium. But, I found it a little mild to what I am used to. Not, in a bad way. The problem with hot sauces in my opinion is that they usually mask whatever you put them on. But, this in no way would do that. The first impression was a real pleasantness. The vinegar was a very faint, but gave it a familiar pleasantness. Being from South Carolina, much of our BBQ is done with a vinegar based BBQ sauce. This reminded me of that and for me I like that. The consistency of the sauce was thick enough to hold on to the food, but not to thick as to jam the jar. This was defiantly different from the mass produced sauces which I am used to that provide, raw heat with out the subtleties found in Off Road Fire. The hint of garlic was also nice as well.

My assumptions proved right as I ate it on burgers, help up very well, although I had to use quit a bit on them. It was very nice addition to Gold Fish cheese cracker to kick them up a notch, even my 17 month old son liked them, but my wife did not little fellow eating them. It tried it on chicken and found that I needed to use a little more than I hoped to kick up the bird. So, as my bottle was running down, I had thoroughly enjoyed the sauce. It is a sauce that I think almost anyone would enjoy. My wife did not mind it and my little boy loved it. I even found myself while riding thinking about what I could put it on when I got from my ride. Very glad I got to try the sauce and wish Dave the best and look forward to sampling future offerings as well. Over all Off Road (Camp) Fire is wonderful well, balanced, everyday usage sauce that I fully recommend. I would love to try Off Road (Forrest) Fire as well.

Hurry Home Bec!!

I love Krystal Burgers. I just started eating them a few months back and I now crave them all the time. Rebecca and Cason are heading home from Augusta with a sack full. Bec is not so wild about them, but Cason loves them and can put right now 2 1/2 burgers now. But I can't wait till he can eat like this guy below!!

Pastor Phillip

Although I am not sure this display squares with 1 Cor 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God's glory.

For My Mom

I told my mom that I got this blog to put pictures of Cason on so here we go...

The book I am reading to Cason by the way is an unoriginal knock off named Five Little Sharks Swimming In The Sea. I like the classic story my mom used to tell me Five Little Monkey's Jumping On The Bed (Here below for your enjoyment, man I hope it is public domain)

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed,

One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,

"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Four little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Three little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

Two little monkeys jumping on the bed,
One fell off and bumped her head.
Papa called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!"

One little monkey jumping on the bed,
He fell off and bumped his head.
Mama called the Doctor and the Doctor said,
"Put those monkeys straight to bed!"

For the record I do not recommend jumping on the bed or playing with monkeys!

Psa 148:7-13 Praise the LORD from the earth, all sea monsters and ocean depths, (8) lightning and hail, snow and cloud, powerful wind that executes His command, (9) mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, (10) wild animals and all cattle, creatures that crawl and flying birds, (11) kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all judges of the earth, (12) young men as well as young women, old and young together. (13) Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted. His majesty covers heaven and earth.

All Ya Need Is Love!!

Yet, without true Christians loving one another, Christ says the world cannot be expected to listen, even when we give proper answers. Let us be careful, indeed, to spend a lifetime studying to give honest answers. But after we have done our best to communicate to a lost world, still we must never forget that the final apologetic which Jesus gives is the observable love of true Christians for true Christians.” Francis Schaffer, The Great Evangelical Disaster, pgs. 164-165

May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me. (22) I have given them the glory You have given Me. May they be one as We are one. (23) I am in them and You are in Me. May they be made completely one, so the world may know You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me.
Jesus in His High Priestly Prayer in John 17:21-23

The first quote above is from a favorite writer of mine Francis Schaffer. He is commenting and John 17:21-23. On my book shelf there sits five massive volumes of his writings that try to explain how to answer objections to the Christian faith and lead people to Christ. Some of his stuff is deeply philosophical, but still practical and worth readings. The amazing thing is that he said that in those five volumes of his writings there is nothing better at showing the Christian faith than love. Love that sounds easy right?

Jesus towards the ends of his life and ministry asks His Father to help his followers to be one: unified, strong and in harmony. Those 12 were all radically different people, Jesus was not asking for blanket uniformity, but a deep love that Christ showed on the cross to characterize our lives. We are not all that easy to love all the time. Just ask my wife Rebecca about me (I know it is hard to believe). My son Cason is capable of making me the happiest man and on the planet one minute and then angry as a "wet setting hen" to quote my late and wonderful grandma (BTW I really I have no idea of what that expression means). The world tends to look at the church and knows all the things we are against, all the groups we don't like, and by clever Jesus T-Shirts but do they know that we have love. Do we show that love in all we do? Do we show that love when are angry, feelings hurt, and mad? Probably not, but if we don't try hard in all areas of our life, the world will see a lack of love and we we will waste a lot time, energy and effort when the world sees straight through us.

Remember Paul said Philippians 2:1-5 If then there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, (2) fulfill my joy by thinking the same way, having the same love, sharing the same feelings, focusing on one goal. (3) Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. (4) Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (5) Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus
